Rolex Submariner Date ref. 16800 from 1985, original box

The Rolex Submariner reference 16800 represents a transitional model bridging vintage and modern Submariner design. Introduced with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, it replaced the older acrylic crystal and featured the high-beat cal. 3035 movement with a quickset date function. It was the first Submariner to offer 300 meters of water resistance and introduced a safer uni-directional bezel to prevent divers from underestimating decompression times. This model epitomizes Submariner technology, featuring luminous hour markers and Mercedes-style hands for underwater readability. Additional features include a unidirectional timing bezel, a robust crown with protectors, and a Cyclops magnification date window for enhanced functionality.

This watch is in overall very good condition, displaying normal wear consistent with regular use. The bezel is in excellent condition, with only hairline scratches visible upon close inspection. The dial is well-preserved, featuring full and intact lume plots. However, there is some minor deterioration of the hour hand and a few specks of dust or lume particles inside the crystal, which itself has a couple of small marks near its edge. The case remains in great shape, showcasing sharp lugs and the correct combination of polished and brushed finishes. The bracelet is in very good physical condition, with a clasp that exhibits signs of wear but functions securely with a firm click. Noticeable scratches are present on the top portion of the bracelet, with less wear observed on the bottom half.
